Model 204 is a database management system for IBM and compatible mainframes. It uses an inverted-list approach to indexing and includes a programming language and application-development environment. Although it is not originally a relational system, Model 204 SQL Server provides limited SQL access through explicit mappings of database files.

Its indexing combines bitmap indexes, hash tables, B-trees, and partitioned record lists. Model 204 SQL Server subsequently provided limited SQL functionality through mappings of Model 204 files to SQL structures.

History
Model 204 was developed and commercialized by Computer Corporation of America. It was announced in 1965 and first deployed in 1972. Implemented in assembly language for IBM System/360 and its successors, it predates SQL and the relational database model.
