History

The project originated in 1990 as P.INK SQL, initially developed for the Macintosh platform by P.INK Software Engineering GmbH. It was ported to Unix systems in 1992 and utilized in publishing applications. Following the bankruptcy of P.INK Software in 1995, former employees acquired the database rights and founded SNAP Innovation GmbH in 1996, continuing development under the PrimeBase name. Additional components including replication and application servers were introduced by 2001, and the PBXT storage engine for MySQL was developed starting in 2004. The products are currently maintained by PrimeBase Systems GmbH.
