History
The project started in the early 1990s as "Expressway 103" by a Massachusetts-based startup. After Sybase's acquisition of Expressway in 1994, they rebranded the system to "Sybase IQ". Development continues under SAP.
The system is credited with pioneering the commercialization of column-store databases.
