RaptorDB is a relational DBMS based on PostgreSQL developed by ServiceNow for use within the ServiceNow platform.[02]

History[03][04]

In 2021, ServiceNow acquired the DBMS startup Swarm64 that sold an accelerated PostgreSQL offering for transactional and analytical workloads. ServiceNow stated that the acquisition was intended to help future-proof the Now Platform and improve performance, scalability, and analytics capabilities.

In 2024, ServiceNow introduced Project RaptorDB as a core data-layer enhancement for the Now Platform, and later described RaptorDB as delivering major improvements in transaction throughput and analytics performance. RaptorDB was developed after the Swarm64 acquisition and is a PostgreSQL fork. ServiceNow has since begun migrating customer instances from MariaDB to RaptorDB.
